Althiem Town
Althiem is the largest town in the Reik, and is the Reik’s base of administrative power. It is unusual in being the largest provincial town that’s not actually the capital. that honour is taken by the home of the ruling Baron, Solitude, up in the mountains to the north.
The town is a mix of all classes and races, The Reik being less fussy over who lives there and what crimes committed elsewhere in the world, many who have fled from the hangman’s noose or the jailer.
The city is divided into 4 distinct quarters
Slavers Quay
One of few slave markets left in the old world, and a living hell for its unfortunate inmates. The ships of the black hand ferry captured slaves to the auctions here, to be sold off to the highest bidder. The north east of the city if given over to degusting cages and prisons containing the poor souls for sale. many in Althiem secretly object to this abhorrent practice, but do not voice their thoughts, lest the guard be round at night to visit.
Military Quarter
The docks and the barrack areas to the north west contain the military might of the Reik, with its training grounds, stables and purpose built barracks its one of the largest and best trained forces in the world.
Grand Quarter
The tall town houses and fancy roadways tell of immense wealth, here the profits of the slave trade are spent and gambled both in the lounges of the homes, the Althiem theatre, and in the Grand Market which resides in the shadows of the towns western wall.
Lowtown
Behind the fancy façade of the Althiem theatre the land drops away towards the river, the fetid swampy air has only been made worse by the building of slums and industrial buildings in the lowtown area.
Lowtown is a disease ridden area, narrow squalid streets and alleys house the poor and sick, living mere yards from the posh streets and wealth of the Grand Quarter
