The History of the Old World
The old world is an ancient and strange place. Mighty Empires rule the lands and Huge Towns dominate their surroundings. Kings Queens, empresses and emperors strive to create bigger and better civilisations in the old world, outdoing their neighbours with the splendour of their cities.
The nations strive to expand, and the frontier lands have become a violent place, Towns and nations hold little sway over the new world, and life is hard for the settlers.
The priests of the many gods preach to the unconverted, bringing them into the benign folds of the watchful deities, and the citizens of the Empire go about their business as they have for hundreds of years.
But below the surface, a darkness has begun to stir, unrest has spread like wildfire in the far lands. Rumours of a long forgotten god have once again been heard in the dark places of the world.
The undead have begun to rise and wander the lands in search of mortal victims, evil infections have begun to spread throughout the land claiming innocent souls who are afflicted with the curses, turning them into ravenous beasts or blood sucking shadows.
The Empire is at a turning point, will it fall to the onslaught of evil, or will it be the shining beacon of hope to it’s citizens.

The Great Divide
27th October 1607
The Rebellion suffered a great setback after their failed attack on Rivenhall, The defeat there cost them many soldiers and materiel, and public support began to wane. The chieftains argued over the loss of the rebel forts surrounding the city and what plans should be made, and finally split from the rebellion. The loss of a single clan hit the rebels hard, and the majority of them left the alliance and went their own way, forming independent groups, some hostile, others not. Smaller attacks from the independent clans became common, but the main threat to the Empire had subsided… for now.

8th February 1600
Despite the years of calm in the world the eastern Isles and the Empire continue to bicker and fight on the borderlands, to fund the continual expense of war, the Empire levied a tax on all towns and cities in the Empire, so it could itself share in the new found wealth uncovered by the trade guilds. Many residents did not like this, and formed an alliance against the Empire, attacking imperial ships carrying tax revenue inspectors. The Empire responded branding these brigands outlaws, but to the general populace they were known as the rebellion. The fight still wages today, not just on the eastern fringes but throughout the land and on the seas around the old world…

Outposts of the great wars can still be seen scattered about the land. Peace was one again brought about by the mediation of a knight, the governor of Newport, who along with his advisors beat out an agreement with the nations to cease hostilities. The mighty nations turned their eyes further afield to the frontier lands, The frozen northlands, the eastern isles, the craggy south lands and the islands in the western seas.
The Dark Ages

The dark ages arrived with the coming of a mage. A pioneer who was a founding father of Newport itself. Rages frequented this wizard and one dark night his true nature was shown to all. Lava, lightning, fire and death was rained down on the inhabitants of Newport, turning houses to flaming ruin and hard earned possessions into ash. Summoning a dark god to aid him he destroyed Newport, and brought ruin upon the outposts in the east and west, the oceans themselves turning to stone The other founders fought with the usurper and finally vanquished him to the dark realms and banished the dark god from the world.Stone by stone they rebuilt the cities and wove protective magic over the stones and bricks themselves to protect them from any further evil. Many years have passed since that fateful night and much of the mage and the dark evil that assisted him are lost in time. Forgotten by the citizens, who tread the same paths as the ancients once did.
